It's a gorgeous fall morning in Green Bay and amid some clouds, the sun is currently shining brilliantly inside the bowl of Lambeau Field. The 1-2 Packers are hoping to shine against a 3-1 Lions team that currently leads the NFC North division. For the Packers, Sunday will be their first opportunity against a division opponent. You know the mantra: to win the division, one must win within the division. Below are three things I'll be watching for in Sunday's matchup.
A BIRD IN THE HAND IS WORTH TWO IN THE BUSH...AS IN REGGIE BUSH
Not since Barry Sanders have the Lions had a RB who can affect a game like Reggie Bush. Calvin Johnson is a stud WR and Matthew Stafford can rack up the yards, but they've done so against the Packers in the past and the Packers have still won. Bush gives the Lions offense a dangerous dimension as a rusher or receiver. What I'll be watching for Sunday is who covers Bush when he lines up as a WR. Will they use a linebacker such as Brad Jones, or will they opt for a nickel or dime cornerback?
Ever since Jeremy Ross was released following a week 3 loss to the Bengals we have wondered who the new punt and kick returner will be. Randall Cobb is the best on the roster, but he's also heavily counted on as a WR. What I'll be watching to see is how many different players are used in the return game this weekend. I'll set the over under at 3. Here's my prediction: Jonathan Franklin will be the primary kick returner. Micah Hyde will return punts when a return is expected. I think the sure-handed Cobb will be the punt returner when a fair catch is expected.
PINK...AND I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT THE ANNOYING SINGER
As part of their annual recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Packers and Lions will have elements of pink in their uniforms...the refs will have pink penalty flags...even that first down line on your TV screen will be pink. What I'll be watching for is exactly how many unique splashes of pink find their way into the overall scene at Lambeau Field.
