Matzek's NFL Power Rankings: Week 5

CREATED Oct. 5, 2011

Just a pair of undefeated teams remain in the NFL, and they both reside in the NFC North. The Packers and Lions could remain undefeated when they meet on Thanksgiving day. I'm guessing the ratings would be solid for such a game.

BIGGEST JUMP: NY Giants (from 14 to 7)

BIGGEST DROP: Philadelphia Eagles (from 9 to 19)

(1). GREEN BAY PACKERS - They aren't perfect, but I've never seen an offense this strong in Green Bay.

(2). NEW ORLEANS SAINTS - Saints RB Darren Sproles is one of my favorite players to watch.

(3). DETROIT LIONS - At some point Lions will figure out how to play a full 60 minutes. As it is, they have come from way behind to win three road games. With 7 home game left, it's time to buy-in.

(4). NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS - I think Wes Welker is the most difficult WR to guard in the NFL. His quickness from the slot is unmatched.

(7). HOUSTON TEXANS - The fact they beat the Steelers by scoring just 17 points should be very encouraging to the Texans. Their defense has holes, but is much improved from a year ago. The bad news is that all-world WR Andre Johnson will miss three weeks with a hamstring pull.

(8). BALTIMORE RAVENS - With three defensive TD's against the Jets, the Ravens are up to their old tricks.

(14). NY GIANTS - I've been hard on the Giants this season, but they're getting healthier and it's showing.

(10). TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS - They escaped the Colts on Monday night. The only reason they moved up is because of the other teams that lost on Sunday.

(5). BUFFALO BILLS - You could see their loss coming. After an impressive win over the Patriots, the Bills fell from the ranks of the unbeaten with an immature loss to the Bengals.

(6). NY JETS - Shonn Greene lead the Jets in rushing on Sunday night with 10 carries for 23 yards. I think the offensive line misses center Nick Mangold.

(17). SAN DIEGO CHARGERS - The Chargers will play three straight on the road starting this week in Denver.

(12). ATLANTA FALCONS - They barely beat Seattle on Sunday. Were they looking ahead to Green Bay? Possibly.

(18). WASHINGTON REDSKINS - 3-1 and leading the NFC East. Just like everyone expected.

(13). CHICAGO BEARS - Now that Mike Martz proved he can call running plays, will he stick with it? A 205 yard effort by Matt Forte would make me want to.

(11). PITTSBURGH STEELERS - Ben Roethlisberger is going to get killed behind that offensive line. LB Jerome Harrison will miss this weekends game due to a broken orbital bone.

(19). TENNESSEE TITANS - Matt. Freaking. Hasselbeck.

(15). DALLAS COWBOYS - They blew a 27-3 lead to lose, at home, to the Lions. I'm sure Jerry Jones took the loss well.

(16). OAKLAND RAIDERS - A loss to the Patriots is excusable, but I thought the Raiders would put up a better fight.

(9). PHILADELPHIA EAGLES - The dream team was sleeping when it came time to address the linebacker situation in the offseason. They cannot stop the run.

(22). SAN FRANCISCO 49ers - I never would have thought this team could come from 20 points down to beat any team, but they did it against the Eagles.

(20). JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS - Rookie QB Blaine Gabbert is getting valuable time under center for the Jags, but I see nothing better than a 6 win season.

(23). CLEVELAND BROWNS - Colt McCoy had 61 pass attempts against the Titans. He completed 40, yet the Browns scored just 13 points.

(24). ARIZONA CARDINALS - RB Beanie Wells had a career day, but great fantasy stats don't always lead to wins.

(27). CAROLINA PANTHERS - 374 more yards for Cam Newton, but another loss. Better balance will help this team.

(31). CINCINNATI BENGALS - Ya know what? The Bengals defense is pretty darn good.

(28). SEATTLE SEAHAWKS - 319 yards passing from Tavaris Jackson was encouraging, but 24 yards rushing by Marshawn Lynch was not.

(32). KANSAS CITY CHIEFS - Winner winner!!

(30). DENVER BRONCOS - The Packers just scored again.

(21). ST LOUIS RAMS - Yikes! It's getting ugly in St. Louis. I'm not sure if there's a more disappointing team in the NFL. At least they won't lose this weekend - they have a bye.

(29). INDIANAPOLIS COLTS - And the Curtis Painter era has begun.

(25). MIAMI DOLPHINS - Head Coach Tony Sporano is on the hot seat.

(26). MINNESOTA VIKINGS - This is getting comical.
