Ted Thompson's hardest days are coming up

11 days from now, a man who endured years of cutdown days as a player has to trim three dozen or so Green Bay Packers from the roster which will play on opening night, Sept. 4.

"We've got an important two weeks right in front of us," said Ted Thompson on Tuesday.

After Friday's preseason game against the Oakland Raiders, Thompson has four days to cut a maximum 90-man roster down to 75.  Then after the August 28 game against the Kansas City Chiefs, that 75-man roster has to drop to 53 players.

He's been on both sides of the process - 10 years as a player with the Houston Oilers and decades in personnel work, with this being his 10th year as Packers GM.

Thompson also talked about the shortened time frame to evaluate players in camp since the NFL Draft has moved from April to May.

"I still think we have enough time during the process.  We're not there yet," said Thompson.

"At the end of the day, we'll have enough body of work to make decisions properly."
