Packers ask fans to bring in old cellphones
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- The Green Bay Packers are asking fans to donate their old cellphones to help victims of domestic violence.
The team will collect phones Monday at Lambeau Field prior to the game against Chicago. Fans are also invited to donate chargers, batteries and other accessories.
Volunteers will accept the equipment at each of the stadium's seven entrances, from 5:30 p.m. until game time at 7:40 p.m. For each phone collected, Verizon Wireless will donate $10 to Golden House, an organization in Green Bay that helps survivors of domestic violence.
Most of the phones will be refurbished. Verizon donates the phones and airtime to survivors or domestic violence, and provides funding to domestic-violence shelters nationwide.
Fans who aren't going to the game can drop off phones at any Verizon store.
