When rookie wide receiver Jeff Janis first stepped onto the Green Bay Packers practice field, many people like 620WTMJ Voice of the Packers Wayne Larrivee could easily have been confused by his physical similarities to star receiver Jordy Nelson.
"When I first saw him on the practice field in May, I said, 'Gosh, is that Jordy Nelson wearing 83?' " Larrivee admitted on "Wisconsin's Morning News." "He's about the same height as Jordy. He's about the same weight as Jordy. He might run faster than Jordy."
Larrivee is not saying Janis belongs in the same category as the nearly $10 million/year Nelson, but he's showing he's got some similar skill sets in his first NFL training camp.
"I've been talking about him since the day I saw him...right after the draft. He has all of those skills you look for...he's got those numbers in the workout, but the kid also has an ability to play the game."
Larrivee says Janis has to work on some fundamentals, the kind that Nelson has mastered in making him arguably the most dependable receiver in quarterback Aaron Rodgers' arsenal.
"He doesn't catch the ball as much with his hands as he does with his body. That's something they'll try to correct...make him more of a 'hands' catcher, because that's where the great catches are made along the sidelines."
