When Matt Flynn heard he was going to start the Packers' first preseason game, he probably hoped he'd have more of an opportunity to display his skills.

Instead, because of the rain in Nashville, Flynn's one drive with the first-team offense was spent establishing the Packers' run game. Head coach Mike McCarthy said this week he wanted players to "jump out and shine" in this game, but Flynn unfortunately didn't have the chance to.

"It was pretty nasty out there," Flynn told Larry McCarren after the game. "The complete number one offense was only out there the first series. We established the running game, so it was a pretty easy job for me that one series. After that, you know it was ups and downs. I felt good about my decision making. Went to the right places with the ball. Struggled a little bit getting a grip on it. That ball was nasty out there, but whatever. Struggled finding that grip to really let it rip out there. It was a decent start, but obvious I personally would've liked to have done better."

McCarren noted the referees didn't necessarily try to shelter the ball during timeouts, but Flynn didn't think it would've made much of a difference.

"I don't know what the deal was. Not real sure the procedure that was going on, but it was raining so hard I don't know if a towel would've helped. Even in the second quarter when it stopped raining, the ball was still water-logged, so it was tough. Kind of struggled getting a grip on it. Preseason number one, you have to pick the positives out of the negatives, and I felt like decision-making I was going to the right spots and things like that. No chance of rain next week, so we'll see."

Flynn was 5 for 10 on the evening, with 49 yards passing.
