Dietrich-Smith: 'Pretty good shot to play' vs. Atlanta

The starting center for the Green Bay Packers gave an optimistic view as to whether he would play Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons in a must-win showdown at Lambeau Field (10:00 a.m. on 620WTMJ).

"For me, I think I'll have a pretty good shot to play in the Atlanta game," Evan Dietrich-Smith told 620WTMJ/NBC26's Larry McCarren on "Packers Live," which airs on TODAY'S TMJ4 and NBC26.

He suffered a knee injury in the Packers' 40-10 loss to the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day.

"It's one of those things where you deal with injuries in the NFL.  It's going to happen.  Not everybody's fortunate."

The biggest question Packers fans are asking, however, is whether Aaron Rodgers will take snaps behind Dietrich-Smith on Sunday.

"It's different with him out there, obviously.  He's one of the best quarterbacks in the league.  He tilts the field to your advantage tremendously," the man called EDS admitted.

However, he also said, "It's a big difference.  It's a team sport.  You can't blame it all on one guy...to put it on the fact that Aaron hasn't played isn't fair for the fans."

The Packers know they must run the table in their four December games if they stand any chance of catching the Detroit Lions, who lead Green Bay by 1.5 games in the NFC North standings.

"With or without him, we as a team, as men can't say, 'It's over.' "
