Lawmakers in the state assembly honored the life of WTMJ legend Gordon Hinkley on Thursday.

"I had been listening to (Gordy) since I was a youngster," said Rep. Jim Ott (R-Mequon), a former meteorologist at WTMJ. "The kind man I got to know on TV and the radio was the same man in person."

"As a kid growing up in Oak Creek, Gordon Hinkley meant the world to me because he was the guy who would tell me if my school was going to be closed," Rep. John Jagler (R-Watertown) joked.

Jagler, who worked with Hinkley at WTMJ radio, said it was an honor to know him. "He meant so much to so many," he said.

Rep. Ken Skowronski (R-Franklin) called Hinkley a personal friend.

"God Bless Gordon," he said.
