The Recall Backfire Continues
Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.
Fund raising reports for the last 6 months of 2013 showed that Goverrnor Scott Walker had raised about $5.1 million. This dwarfed the $1.8 million raised by Mary Burke, Walker's challenger.
So, why was the Governor able to raise so much money?
Thank the recall.
When Democrats launched their ill-fated effort to recall Governor Walker, they made him a national figure. When they failed to unseat him, they made him a national hero. That status allows Walker to draw broad support from across the country.
Even without the recall, Walker's reforms would have made him popular in national conservative circles. However the recall increased that popularity exponentially - and has given Walker a huge advantage going into the 2014 elections.
I have no doubt that Mary Burke will raise a lot of money and will run a well-funded campaign. I also have no doubt that Governor Walker will be financially able to make his case to the voters.
And for that, Governor Walker should thank the recall.
