Porn In The Public Schools
This strikes me as being a textbook case of how screwed up the public education system in Wisconsin is.
In 2010, Andrew Harris was fired from his job teaching science at Glacier Creek Middle School in Middleton. A complaint by a female teacher whom Harris had shown an image of a nude woman prompted the investigation, which determined 23 emails Harris received from his sister over several years violated the district's internet use policy.
Harris doesn't deny looking at and sharing inappropriate material. He does claim that he was treated unfairly because other teachers were also looking at pornography but received lesser penalities.
An arbitrator agreed with Harris and has ordered him reinstated with back pay in the neighborhood of $200,000. Appeals by the school district have failed and Harris is headed back to the classroom.
To add insult to injury, the school district will not accomodate requests by parents to have their children assigned to teachers other than Harris!
They say that crime doesn't pay - but Andrew Harris is walking proof that watching porn does.
During the 2 p.m. hour of Wednesday's radio show, we'll talk about whether Harris should have gotten his job back - and whether parents should be able to opt their kids out of his classroom?
