Leave The Gun, Take The Cannoli

Leave The Gun, Take The Cannoli

By Jeff Wagner. CREATED May 2, 2014

In March of 2013, Joshua Welch (then age 7) took his breakfast pastry, chewed it into the shape  of a gun (whatever that means) and pointed the pastry at fellow classmates.  His alarmed second  grade teacher arranged to have him suspended for two days.

So far, school officials have resisted attempts by Joshua's family to have the suspension removed from his record.

The school has a policy against students possessing gun "facsimiles".  At the time, Joshuas's father was told that officials had heightened concerns about guns and that they believed that other students would easily be scared.

Did I mention that this was a pastry?

At a hearing this week, the school argued for the first time that this was only the culmination of a series of classroom disruptions.  That claim is apparently news to everyone involved in this situation.

During the 12 p.m. hour of Friday's radio show, we'll discuss whether nibbling a breakfast pastry into the shape of a gun is a sufficient basis for getting yourself tossed out of school?

Please feel free to share your thoughts in the Comments section -  and be sure to check back later to hear a replay of the conversation.
