Is Hank's Tail Wagging The Dog?
I was in a bar the other night when two patrons got into a loud argument.
No it wasn't about Obama versus Putin! Or about Walker versus Burke! Or about religion, or gun rights or NCAA Tournament seedings.
The argument was about Hank the Dog.
By now, everybody in the free world knows the story of Hank the Dog. According to the tale, Hank is a stray who appeared at the Brewers spring training facility in Arizona and was adopted by the team. Hank has now become a bona fide media star with his own merchandising operation and a legion of fans.
Heck, the Mayor of Milwaukee even waited to pose with Hank. That's the Mayor on the left.
Some cynics have even dared to suggest that Hank's backstory is a creation of the Brewers Publicity Department. If so, someone in Marketing deserves a raise.
Anyway, the guy in the bar said something like "If I have to hear one more story about that stupid dog, I'm going to go crazy". To which his buddy replied, "Stupid dog? That's Hank. He's cute and loveable and the greatest thing to happen to Milwaukee since canned beer."
Needless to say, it was on. ...
During the 2 p.m. hour of Tuesday's radio show, we'll discuss whether coverage of Hank is over the top - or whether you just can't wait to get your daily dose of Hank.
Please feel free to share your thoughts in the Comments section - and be sure to check back later to hear a replay of the segment.
As an aside, I wonder whether we can get Hank to come out to our mobile broadcast facility for an interview with me on Opening Day?
