Get Me To The Arena On Time
Last week the NCAA Tournament came to Milwaukee. In an especially fortuitous circumstance for downtown businesses, the Wisconsin Badgers ended up playing two games at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
I had a pair of tickets to all three sessions (two on Thursday, one on Saturday). Unfortunately, I couldn't go to the Thursday afternoon games because I had to work. Several of my friends were in the same situation.
Milwaukee County Supervisor David Cullen was faced with the same situation. It seems that the County Board had scheduled a Board meeting for Thursday that conflicted with the early start of the Badgers game. How inconvenient of them.
This didn't pose too much of a problem for Cullen though. It seems he showed up, cast some votes and then bailed in plenty of time to catch most of the game.
You can make a strong argument that Milwaukee County would be in much better shape if the rest of the County Board would regularly "pull a Cullen" and leave meetings. You can also argue that this is yet another reason why Milwaukee County voters should support next Tuesday's referendum reducing the pay of County Board members.
At the same time though, it was the NCAA Tournament - and Wisconsin was playing.
During the 1 p.m. hour of Thursday's radio show, we'll discuss whether it was irresponsible for Supervisor Cullen to skip out early from last week's meeting - or no big deal?
