Does Protecting And Serving Include Throwing Punches?
If you haven't seen this video yet, you probably will shortly.
At bar time last Saturday morning, Green Bay Police officers were in the process of arresting a man for having open intoxicants.
At that point, Joshua Wenzel, a 29-year-old Caledonia man appears to get into an animated discussion with Green Bay Police Officer Derek Wicklund. The video shows Wicklund grabbing Wenzel, wrestling him to the ground and throwing at least one punch.
The Police Union, while implicitly acknowledging that the video looks bad, says that the Officer used reasonable force.
Now some of the "open carry" guys (you know, the folks who wander around neighborhoods toting AR-15's) are planning an armed "presence" around bars this weekend to protest the actions of the police. Wonderful!
During the 2 p.m. hour of Thursday's radio show, we'll discuss whether this was an overreaction on the part of authorities or the justifiable use of force?
