Did Target Put A Target On Your Wallet?
I think we've shopped at Target once in the last year. Unfortunately - at least potentially - that Target shopping trip occurred within the last few weeks.
Target announced yesterday that credit and debit card data for about 40 million customers charging purchases between November 27th and December 15th may have been stolen. Merry Christmas.
Security experts say that this isn't the first - and won't be the last - such breach. For example, American credit card issuers generally have not embraced smart-chip technology (which makes mass credit card theft more difficult).
However that's little comfort to people who've shopped at Target over the last few weeks - and will now have to spend the next several months monitoring their various accounts for suspicious activity.
For whatever it's worth, a lot of people are in the same big, leaky boat.
So how worried are you about data theft in general? And what will it mean for Target in the both short term and the long term?
We'll discuss the issue during the 1 p.m. hour of today's show. Please feel free to share your thoughts in the Comments section and be sure to check back later to hear a replay of the segment.
