Fool Me Once, Shame On You
This morning, I am eating my words ... and they don't taste especially good.
In this very space on February 28, 2012, I wrote a piece entitled "Why I Believe Ryan Braun". I admit that as a Brewers fan, I wanted to believe Ryan Braun. Still, after his press conference at spring training that year, I figured that Braun was either telling the truth or was a pathological liar.
And I didn't want to think that the face of the Brewers franchise was both a cheater and a pathological liar.
Oops, I sure got that one wrong.
Frankly, I'm not sure how Braun comes back from this. His whiny non-apology apology yesterday certainly wasn't a very good start.
Next season, I'll cheer when Braun does something that helps the Brewers. That's what Brewers fans do. On the other hand, I'll never look at Ryan Braun the same way again. I don't think most people will.
And if you drive by my house and see me washing my car with a blue rag that looks suspiciously like a Ryan Braun jersey, that's the way it goes.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice? Not going to happen.
