Happy "Jeff Wagner Day"

Happy "Jeff Wagner Day"

CREATED Feb 24, 2012

It takes a lot to render me speechless (just ask my wife).  Still, that's precisely what about 400 people at the Country Springs Hotel did last evening.

Every year, the Potawatomi Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America holds an event where they recognize all the young men who have become Eagle Scouts over the preceding twelve months.  I've had the privilege of being the emcee for the event for the past ten years.

It's a great evening - and one that I look forward to each year.  At one point in the program, we bring each young man up on the stage and tell the audience a little bit about his achievements. Talk about life affirming.

The night is obviously about the Eagle Scouts and the adult volunteers who do so much for scouting.  That's why it wasn't a surprise to me when the Council Leader took the program over from me for a couple of minutes to read a Proclamation from Governor Walker.  I simply assumed that the Proclamation would recognize either the Council in general or one of the many dedicated Scout leaders who volunteer so much of their time to such a good cause.

I was wrong.

Here's what the Proclamation reads:

"WHEREAS; the Potawatomi Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, with active membership of more than 7,900 young men, is holding its Annual Eagle Scout Recognition Banquet at the Country Springs Hotel in Pewaukee on Thursday, February 23, 2012; and

WHEREAS; the Potawatomi Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America is honoring Jeff Wagner, for his many years of support, by establishing a Boy Scout "campership" in his name which will be given each year to a worthy scout who will be able to attend Camp Long Lake; and

WHEREAS; Jeff Wagner, early afternoon talk show host on AM-620 WTMJ and former federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney's Office, has generously provided professional support to the Potawatomi Area Council Boy Scouts Annual Recognition Banquet over the last 10 years;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Scott Walker, Governor of the State of Wisconsin, do hereby proclaim Thursday, February 23, 2012, as

                                         JEFF WAGNER DAY

throughout the State of  Wisconsin, and I commend this observance to all of our citizens.

                                                                                                    SCOTT WALKER

                                                                                                         GOVERNOR  "

My own day and a "campership" for a deserving Scout.  It doesn't get any better than that!

To all the folks involved in Scouting in Waukesha, thanks for letting me be part of your family for the past ten years.  To everyone else, Happy Jeff Wagner Day (plus one)!
