Sunday Night HBO
For the past few months, the best night of television hasn't been on ABC, CBS or NBC...it's Sunday Nights on HBO. HBO has combined a weekly news show and a funny new comedy that is fantastic.
First, the comedy: Silicon Valley.
The show is created by Mike Judge of "Beavis & Butthead Fame." The show surrounds a tech startup called "Pied Piper" and their effort to bring this new company to market in Silicon Valley. The show is so hilariously written that it will make you literally laugh out loud. The highligh clip I would like to show you is SO Not Safe For Work I can't link it. For real, don't click if you don't want to be offended. So, I won't. Instead, here's a more sanitized highlight clip. This features the weenie business consultant going for a ride with a high tech driverless car: Click HERE
One more clip about owner Richard and his team trying to name the company...still NSFW but less so:
On to the talk show:
There's a list of 1.5B talk show hosts on TV. Jimmy Fallon, Conan O'Brien, David Letterman, Seth Myers, John Stewart, etc. etc. etc.
It takes a lot for a new show to pop up and make a difference. John Oliver is now doing a new show on HBO and it really has it's moments. If you've seen the Daily Show with John Stewart then you've probably seen John Oliver. He was one of Stewart's "correspondents" and he's now scored his own show on HBO.
The show is very similar in some ways to the Daily Show, but, it differs in one noticeable way. "Last Week Tonight" makes political points. The show doesn't seem to be satisfied with just making you laugh, they seem to want to drive home a bigger point. Check out his take on Net Neutrality and why its important. Really funny stuff:
So, fire up your HBO GO and get on these shows...they're GREAT!
