See the Rock Hall Nominees in their Original Glory
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced this year's nominees. Bands aren't eligible for the Rock Hall until their first release is atleast 25 years old. This requirement helps to ensure that all of the nominees are indeed worthy of enshrinement. But, it guarantees that NONE of the nominees are still in peak form from their earlier, amazing performances that earned the nomination!
Take a look at some on this year's list.
Nirvana is one of the nominees. Amazing band. Ground Breaking Performances. Dead Lead Singer.
LL Cool J. One of the most important figures in Hip Hop history. He's now more of an Actor than MC.
Hall & Oates. No longer relevant, but, Oates' mustache is still going strong. (Oates' mustace has its own Facebook page. For real.)
You get the point, time is cruel to us all and I wanted to look back at these bands and celebrate what they did in their heyday.
Here is atleast one live performance of every nominee so you can soak in their music and flashback on our shared time together. I found Chic on Italian TV in 1979. Link Wray on Dick Clark's American Bandstand! The Replacements from 1981 in a Minneapolis club. It's a smorgasborg of delicious Rock & Roll memories we have all forgotten.
KISS - FULL SHOW - Live in Largo Maryland - 1977
YES - FULL SHOW - "Yes Songs - Concert Movie" -
Space Ships, Trippy lighting, camera effects, Long hair, amazing musicianship
Nirvana - 20 minutes - Live at the Paramount - 1991
Lots of flannel and Doc Martens plus a ladies bonus: Shirtless Dave Grohl
The Zombies - I found a version of "This Old Heart of Mine" from French TV. But, they wouldn't allow me to embed the video. Here is the link: http://youtu.be/eExAFAxZJxE
Chic - Lip Syncing on Italian TV in 1979. See Italian kids disco dancing. Greatest Video of my life.
NWA - Arsenio Hall interviews them and they perform heavily edited lyrics. Look how young Dr. Dre looks!
Peter Gabriel - BIKO - 1986 Amnesty International Live
The Replacements - September 5 1981 from 7th street club in MPLS
Linda Ronstadt - Burt Sugarman's Midnight Special - "You're No Good"
Cat Stevens - Here is an Entire Concert from 1976. Watch the way he plays piano, awesome!
Hall & Oates - She's Gone from 1976.
LL Cool J - This is from 1988 on an unnamed awards show. LL Cool J was so cool back in the day!
Deep Purple - Hush from "Playboy After Dark." A young Hugh Hefner Interviews the band.
Paul Butterfield Blues Band - - Live at Woodstock, 1969
The Meters - WTTW Chicago - 1974
Link Wray - Dick Clark's American Bandstand. I saved one of the best for last. In this clip we're talking guys in suits, surf instrumental, rando screaming 50's girls and a young Dick Clark. Awesome!
