Family sues DirecTV for allowing registered sex offender in house; photographs 12-year-old daughter

The satellite service provider DirecTV is now being sued by a Dallas family after one of their contractors making a house call brought with him a man who was found out to be a registered sex offender and who took pictures of their 12-year-old daughter.

Wahren Scott Massey, 48, allegedly entered a room where the young girl, a gymnast, was alone and stretching. Massey asked to take several mobile phone photos of her "with her legs in the air" and then told her not to tell her parents," according to Reuters. When the man left, the child told her mother.

According to Reuters, Massey was arrested for the August 2012 incident and "pleaded guilty in October to attempted indecency with a child and attempted sexual performance of a child for the pictures he took of the girl. He was sentenced to four years in prison, according to legal documents."

"Officers performed a background check on Massey, discovered he had been a registered sex offender in Texas since 1998, and issued a criminal trespass warning," Reuters further reports. "His phone was confiscated as evidence and a warrant for his arrest was issued months later."

DirecTV says Massey was brought to the house by a contractor not affiliated with the company itself. It also says the contractor has since been fired for violating company policy.

DirecTV has allegedly not responded to any contact made by the family and their attorney in search of an explanation. For the company's miscommunication, the family is now suing for compensation of between $100,000 and $200,000 in damages, and hopes to ensure this does not happen to other customers.
