A number of key Green Bay Packers missed practice Monday after a bye week where most of them hoped to recover from injury.
As tweeted by ESPN's Rob Demovsky:
Not practicing: Bush (hamstring), Hayward (hamstring), Kuhn (hamstring), Matthews (hamstring), Starks (knee), Finley (concussion). #Packers— Rob Demovsky (@RobDemovsky) September 30, 2013
Confirmed by the Journal Sentinel's Tom Silverstein:
#Packers practice: LB Clay Matthews, RB James Starks, TE Jermichael Finley, RB John Kuhn, CB Jarrett Bush and CB Casey Hayward are out.— Tom Silverstein (@TomSilverstein) September 30, 2013
Multiple reporters said that Eddie Lacy and Johnathan Franklin both practiced at running back, and that Morgan Burnett returned to practice at safety. All of them also had been recovering from injury.
Packers coach Mike McCarthy talked exclusively with 620WTMJ/NBC26's Larry McCarren about making sure practice was shorter so as to not overtax injured players.
"I hope we're better. That's (why we had) a short practice today. It's important to come off of a bye, you don't go into an extended practice."
He did comment on Franklin's practice, saying he took some good steps in practice on Monday.
