If you're a Milwaukee Admirals fan, you might recognize the name Shae Weber, or Roman Josi. They're two of a whopping 10 former and current Admirals who are competing for their native countries.
The full list includes:
- Two suiting up for Canada
- Two for Russia
- Two for Finland
- One each for Austria, host Russia, Slovakia and the United States
"We're excited that people that play here and develop and go on to play in the NHL, and if you can take that one step further, to play in the Olympics, it speaks a lot about the players that come through, the organization," said Dean Evason, the head coach of the Admirals.
Left wing Simon Moser is the only current Admiral. He'll be absent for a number of games back in Milwaukee while competing for Switzerland, but the time in Sochi could really be beneficial.
"I can get a lot of experience and bring it back for the Admirals. I'm coming back stronger than (when) I leave," said Moser.
Admirals coaches will be watching, and not just to see their own players.
"Certainly it's a good oppotunity to learn as well, as coaches. We'll be able to watch different systems, different tactics as well," said Evason.
The gold medal winner in the past three Olympics has been Canada, Sweden and Canada again.
Team USA has taken silver twice, but has not won gold since the Miracle in Ice in the 1980 Lake Placid Games.
