Fans claim hundreds of Brewers balloons with free tickets, prizes

By Jay Sorgi. CREATED May 5, 2014 - UPDATED: May 6, 2014

Milwaukee Brewers fans got up early Tuesday and were finding balloons with free tickets and other Brewers-related prizes like a game in a luxury suite at Miller Park.

The Brewers placed 500 balloons throughout the city, including many at Miller Park, with a voucher for two tickets to a Brewers-Pittsburgh Pirates game next week (May 13-15).

The balloons were set for the contest to start at 5:00 a.m.  Fans would have to pop the balloon to get the prize.

Every balloon at Miller Park was claimed by 5:34 a.m.

"I ran upstairs, got my daughter, said 'Let's get out here,' " said Jessica, a fan who went to Miller Park for a balloon.  Another fan came out in her pajamas and slippers to get a balloon.

Other balloons were set around the city and suburbs which were still available at that time, including the Bronze Fonz according to Brewers COO Rick Schlesinger.

To help fans, TODAY'S TMJ4's "Live at Daybreak" sent Chopper 4 on a reconnaissance mission to find balloons for fans.

"Once it was announced at 5:00 a.m., we saw people coming in quickly, and they were gone within half an hour down here,"  Brewers spokesman Tyler Barnes said on TODAY'S TMJ4's "Live at Daybreak."

The Brewers revealed some visual clues about the promotion during their Monday night TV broadcast, and another fan may have found a clue.

"It was online.  A friend called me this morning, so we came on down to see what it's this is about," said Dave from Oak Creek, who joined "Live at Daybreak."

"After the brawl (between the teams), it's going to be exciting to see what happens.  It should be intense."
"I’m on the way to work. I got two Brewers tickets,” another Brewers fan, Paul Carter, told TODAY'S TMJ4's Yona Gavino. “It's a good way to start the day."

The Brewers set a limit of one balloon per person.

The promotion was set up as part of "Spring Madness (414)" which includes 50 percent off selected tickets for the Pirates series, $4 16-ounce beers, $1 sodas and hot dogs, and $4 nachos.
