GREEN BAY - It gazes at you from high above Green Bay.
An unmistakable image just off to the right as you approach the city from westbound State Highway 172.
You turn to look as you cross over the Fox River and get your first glimpse of it - a large “G” looking at you, summoning you to your destination.
As you continue your journey, you begin to see signs which let you know you are close.
“Arena” and “Holmgren Way” road signs on the right a billboard with Aaron Rodgers on the left.
Exit right, toward your destination.
You drive past Bay Park Square Mall to Oneida Street. One more right turn. One more mile to go.
And looming in the distance is the same image you saw back on the bridge-that unmistakable “G” growing ever larger with each block driven.
“Do we need anything from Walgreens?” might be asked during this final stretch of travel.
“Should we stop at McDonalds before we get there?” may be another, the McDonalds complete in green and gold paint.
But you don’t stop. You keep going.
Just a few more blocks…
Then, from behind the houses which line Oneida Street, you see it.
The “G” you had been seeing for several minutes comes into full view. It is the beacon for your destination, calling all faithful to this place.
As you step out of the car, the mystique captures you, and takes you to a different place.
From the smell of the brats cooking on the grills to the bands playing in the parking lots and along the street, you know you are home.
A sea of green and gold consumes you, as you get closer and closer to your final destination.
Vince and Curly are there to meet you, pointing you in the right direction.
You may gaze up at the clock tower to see how much time there is before the game, only then realizing it runs on Lombardi time.
Fifteen minutes to spare!
With ticket in hand and the security check out of the way, you make your way inside, winding through the corridors of the interior with thousands of others who made the pilgrimage today as well.
Stopping along the way to get a brat and a beverage, and maybe say hi to a few people you know. No worries, there’s plenty of time.
Finally, you reach your section. And as you walk through the hallway, the sunlight hits you.
After your eyes adjust, the greenest grass on Earth is in full view.
Finding your seat, you sit down, and begin to enjoy what the next three plus hours will bring.
From the National Anthem to Rolling Out the Barrel, it is a party in the stands.
And the action on the field. Oh, the action on the field…
These are the moments you will never forget. The memories that will be with you forever.
And you cannot wait to make the journey again.
THIS is Lambeau Field.
