A speedskater who does training work at the Pettit National Ice Center is on his way to Sochi.

Past Olympic gold medalist Shani Davis won the 1,000 meter race at the Olympic Trials in Salt Lake City on Sunday.

Davis clinched a berth to Sochi, while Hansen is likely to also receive a berth when the Olympic team is announced on Jan. 1.

Davis joins Mitch Whitmore, who won the men's 500 meters, Jonathan Kuck, the 5,000 meter champion, and women's 1,000 meter champ Jilleanne Rookard as Milwaukee-based skaters who clinched berths in Sochi.

Hansen, Tucker Fredericks and Emery Lehman could also join them when the team is named New Year's Day.
