Today's Outlook

Messy Mix With Whippin' Winds Then Tumblin' Temps

High pressure brought us a very bright start to the work week with full sunshine for most of the day.  We're already starting to see high thin clouds move in adhead of the next disturbance.  The storm system is going to be massive and have an impact on millions of people in the Eastern two-thirds of the country, including right here in Southeast Wisconsin.  We'll notice the clouds getting thicker through the evening hours as the atmosphere moistens up.  Low pressure with upper level support will strength and move out of the Plains toward the Badger State.  The steadiest snow will begin to fall just before dawn Tuesday making the morning commute a potentially dangerous and slippery mess.  Winds will increase significantly leading to reduced visibility in the snowfall, too.  By midday, enough warm air could wrap into the system to cause a period of mixed precipitation including, snow, rain, freezing rain, and sleet primarily from I-94 South into Northern Illinois.  Meantime, it should be cold enough well North of that line to be mostly snow through the afternoon.  Total accumulation should range from 2 to 4 inches with the least South and the greatest amounts North.  Then another Arctic airmass overspreads the area Tuesday night through Friday morning with bitter cold temperatures returning for the period.
