It was confirmed during a Marin County's Sheriff's Office press conference in California Tuesday that Oscar-winning comic Robin Williams hanged himself with a belt on Monday. Officials has suspected Williams died from asphyxiation.
"Superficial cuts on the inside of the comedian’s left wrist and a pocket knife found near the body indicated Williams possibly tried another method of suicide before using the belt, authorities said," reports the New York Daily News.
Lt. Keith Boyd of the Marin County Sheriff’s Office details, "Williams’ personal assistant panicked Monday morning after banging on the actor’s bedroom door about 11:45 a.m. and receiving no response," the New York Daily News further reports. "The assistant opened the door to find Williams in a seated position with one end of the belt tightened around his neck and the other wedged between the door and the frame of a clothes closet." Boyd added, “He was suspended from the belt ... in a seated position, slightly suspended off the ground."
Rigor mortis had set in by the time first responders arrived at the Tiburon, California, residence.
Williams was pronounced dead seven minutes after the 911 call was placed.Toxicology results are expected in two to six weeks to determine if he had any drugs or alcohol in his system at the time of his death.
It remains unconfirmed whether Williams left a suicide note.
