The quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers is refuting a report which initially said he was the subject of an investigation into a "possible sexual assault," something which apparently is not the case.
TMZ.com initially reported Thursday the possible sexual assault happened at a hotel in Miami earlier this month.
Kaepernick took to Twitter to respond.
(1/3) The charges made in the TMZ story and other stories I’ve seen are completely wrong. They make things up about me that never happened.— Colin Kaepernick (@Kaepernick7) April 11, 2014
(2/3) I take great pride in who I am and what I do, but I guess sometimes you have to deal with someone who makes things up.— Colin Kaepernick (@Kaepernick7) April 11, 2014
(3/3) I want to thank all of the people who have shared their encouraging sentiments. I assure you that your faith is not misplaced.— Colin Kaepernick (@Kaepernick7) April 11, 2014
FOX Sports' Mike Garofalo also reported Thursday the incident did not involve a sexual assault.
Miami PD adamant to our @writerkev + others they're calling Kaepernick situation a "suspicious incident," not a possible sexual assault.— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) April 10, 2014
According to a 49ers writer, the team said:
From #49ers: "The 49ers organization is aware of the recent media report regarding Colin Kaepernick ...— Eric Branch (@Eric_Branch) April 10, 2014
... and is in the process of gathering the pertinent facts.”— Eric Branch (@Eric_Branch) April 10, 2014
Kaepernick is reportedly not the only NFL player involved in the investigation. From a Sacramento Bee reporter:
According to a Miami PD report, the incident in question occurred April 1 at Ricardo Lockette's apartment in Miami. Story coming:— Matt Barrows (@mattbarrows) April 10, 2014
A CBS Sports report says that, according to a police report, a woman claimed "Mr. Kaepernick came behind her into the bedroom and started kissing her." She also said she did not remember them having sex, and that the other two football players "peeked" into the room she was in.
She claims the men shut the door, but she could not remember other details after that point. She then said in the report that she went to a hospital, but did not remember how she arrived there.
According to CBS Sports, the woman said she had a prior history with Kaepernick.
His agent talked with NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Kaepernick made the Pro Bowl for the 2013 season in leading the 49ers to their third straight conference championship game.
