In a YouTube video so preternaturally goofy you have to see it to believe it, Oscar Mayer has unveiled its new Wake Up & Smell the Bacon alarm clock app for iPhone.
That’s right, a bacon app that wakes you up with the sound of sizzling and (with the right add-on) a puff of bacon scent. You rotate a skillet to set your alarm time.
The video is made to look like a bad romance film—about bacon—and includes such bizarre lines as “When scent embraces sizzle, who knows where that crispy compass will lead you?” and “At darkest midnight, the nostrils’ north star awaits you.”
The company describes the app as “a multi-sensory alarm experience that starts your morning with the mouthwatering sizzle and smell of Oscar Mayer bacon.” It's also a healthier alternative than actually eating bacon, although Oscar Mayer isn't promoting that.
The app is still in the testing phase, but you can download it for free on iTunes here. A small add-on you attach to your iPhone delivers the bacon scent, and you have to apply online at WakeUpAndSmellThe Bacon.com by April 4 for a chance to win one. It comes with a refill of bacon scent, according to the Los Angeles Times. The devices will not be available for sale.
According to Mashable, the scent is "more jerky than bacon.”
