By Julianne Cassidy. CREATED Jun 17, 2014

Lifeguards in Seaside Heights, N.J., saved a total of seven swimmers throughout the day of June 14, but one of the men they rescued had an odd way of showing his gratitude. He aggressively attacked two lifeguards once on dry land.

"Ivan Rivera was under the influence of alcohol when he was caught in a rip current with another man and both were swept out to sea Saturday evening, said Seaside Heights Police Chief Tommy Boyd," reports NBC New York.

Once safe on the beach, "Rivera allegedly attacked two other lifeguards who came over to help, striking one of them in the jaw," further reports NBC New York.

Rivera now faces multiple charges: simple assault and disorderly conduct, as well as underage drinking. Rivera's friend who was also rescued was not beleived to have been involved in the assault.
