WHITEFISH BAY - For most of us it's second nature to swipe your debit card at the grocery store or the gas station. But recently, more than a dozen Whitefish Bay residents found out that everyday convenience cost them a lot of money.
Tracking down the thieves is hard, because not everyone is like Bob Sullivan - who limits where he uses his card.
"I only use a debit card at one place so I know where the problem is."
In the last five days, Whitefish Bay police have received five reports of people noticing unauthorized charges on their debt cards.
It's still unclear how the thief - or thieves - got a hold of the victims' bank card numbers, but a majority of the victims bank at BMO Harris and shop in the Whitefish Bay Business District.
A warning for everyone to watch their debit transactions more closely.
