MILWAUKEE - Cancer took away one of the things she loved. Now Call 4 Action is helping this local woman get back her smile and so much more.
It's been 22 years since Rosie Juhay was diagnosed with mouth cancer. It's been a downward spiral since then.
"I don't want to go out in public too much," Juhay said.
Cancer and the treatment affected her vision and hearing, burned the muscles in her throat and left her with a prosthesis that no longer fits. Meaning it's difficult to talk clearly, and Rosie can't eat regular food.
"Anything I eat I have to put in a blender or it has to be liquid," she said.
Juhay can't afford a new prosthesis and medicare won't cover it. So she turned to Call 4 Action. One of our volunteers took up her case working tirelessly to find a solution.
"A complete stranger to put her whole heart and soul into helping," she said tearfully.
It's help Juhay's daughter is also thankful for.
"You stood by my mom's side and that means a lot," Lisa told us.
Over the years, humor is what saved Juhay.
"I'm okay from the ankles down. It's from the ankles up I'm just a complete disaster!"
Now with a new prosthesis in her future Rosie's first wish? To dig into a great big steak!
Call 4 Action found Rosie help through the Marquette Dental School. The first of many surgeries to rebuild Juhay's mouth and get her a new prosthesis is scheduled for June.
