WAUKESHA - Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus recently announced she is not running for re-election, and recently released emails give a behind-the-scenes look at what happened leading up to that development.
Election specialist attorney Jeremy Levinson reviewed emails showing confusion during election night in the Wisconsin presidential primary last month, but he doesn't believe anything malicious took place.
He says Nickolaus was trying to implement a new system to release vote totals and it simply didn't work.
"Nothing in these emails indicated to me any bad intentions beyond wanting to make this more exciting and fancy than it should be," Levinson explains.
The problems caused big delays in posting returns in Waukesha County on election night. It came after last year when Nickolaus made a giant blunder, forgetting to record the entire City of Brookfield in a close Supreme Court Justice race.
Nickolaus has not returned calls or emails asking for an interview.
