MILWAUKEE - Dead insects in the kitchen - that's just one of the problems at this Dirty Dining repeat offender on Milwaukee's east side.
It's Chopstix on Farwell. We were there in 2007 and this past February. This time the hood over the stove was dripping grease, and dead flies were stuck to it. Chopstix says they have a service to replace the filters that prevent grease buildup. There were also dead flies on lights over the area where employees prep food.
Egg rolls and fried chicken were not marked with expiration dates. After seven days, cooked food has to be thrown out.
There were food temperature issues. A cooler was holding raw shrimp, chicken and beef at 49 degrees. It should be at 41. We got a follow up call from Chopstix saying that fridge is fixed, and they are monitoring food temps.
Fried egg rolls were stored in a cardboard box saturated with grease. They are now using food grade containers. After a few minutes we were asked to leave the restaurant.
Chopstix was fined by the health department.
We visited Gianelli's Pizza and Chicken Man two weeks ago. A re inspection still found problems. This spot on 87th and Fond Du Lac was fined, again. Inspectors will be back.
And getting an "all clean" on its last inspection was Cafe Centraal in Bay View on the corner of KK and Lincoln.
