MILWAUKEE - It's our second visit in just a year. This specialty coffee spot on the city's north side just can't get it together.
"Coffee Makes You Black" is located in an old bank building on Teutonia and Hadley. They do more than just coffee. They also serve up southern comfort dining, but this spot keeps getting fined by the health department. We weren't there long when a man asked "What can I do for you?" and then gestured for us to follow him. He led us to the entry way and then walked away.
He didn't want to talk about the restaurant's October inspection. They were fined for cross contamination risks, food temperature issues and many other violations. "Coffee Makes You Black" was re-inspected last week and fined again for not cleaning everything up.
Food, supposed to be kept cold, was still way too warm. Ham was 22 degrees above the safe cold temp. We were eventually escorted out.
Last year we gave the Five O'Clock Steakhouse on 24th and State a Blue Ribbon Award. Now this Milwaukee mainstay has problems on its health inspection. Droppings and a dead rodent in the basement, an employee touched customer's food without gloves. and other violations.
Out in Waukesha County, Domino's Pizza on Janesville Road in Muskego had a clean health inspection this time around.
