MILWAUKEE - Who doesn't love a good cupcake? And a new cafe in the Third Ward serving up a South American twist. Both spots got an all clean from the health department.
Miss Julia's Bake Shop in "Galleria West" on Bluemound in Brookfield. Every day there are 12 different kinds of cupcakes on display. Owner Paula Hienz is a former nurse. She now bakes for a living, "baking's my passion, and it turned out that's what people loved." Hienz named the business after her daughter. Miss Julia's also does cakes and other special treats. Working with flour can be messy. "We just keep after it and keep it clean. We clean before, during, after all the time."
This owner is committed to food safety, and it shows on her clean health inspection. For that Miss Julia's gets our first Blue Ribbon Award.
Over in the Third Ward on Broadway, Kasana Cafe has been open for business just a year. It has so much kitchen space owner Ana Docta rents out to other businesses. "I have a food truck, I have a pretzel company and I have a non profit organization." Ana breaks down the menu at Kasana's, "organic, no antibiotics, no hormones and a little flair of Argentinian and Brazilian food."
Ana is a self proclaimed germaphobic. "I bring this from my home. Everything have to be sanitized, everything have to be in perfect condition." For a spotless kitchen Kasana gets our second Blue Ribbon Award.
