MILWAUKEE - One is a beer lover's dream. The other a hidden gem in a local community. Both of their kitchens are spotless. We are handing out Blue Ribbon Awards this week.
Caroline's is on Watertown Plank Road in Elm Grove, and Carol Burkert has been in business 20 years. It's just Burkett in the kitchen serving lunch four days a week.
"The most popular thing is my homemade french roll that's filled with a pecan chicken salad," she said.
This grandmother of 11 also whips up a big soup selection and makes her own candy. Burkett is also good at keeping a clean kitchen.
"I clean as I go," she said. "I clean up at the end too, but I try to keep up with it."
And for its clean health inspection, Caroline's gets our first Blue Ribbon Award.
In Milwaukee, Stubby's next to the Humboldt Street Bridge also received clean marks.
They "...go above and beyond what people would expect when they walk in a more casual atmosphere such as ours," co-owner Brad Todd said.
Going that extra mile also includes keeping things clean. This Gastrogrub has 53 beers on the menu, and they also serve food. Todd thanks his employees for Stubby's clean health inspection.
"Employing the right people, and it's the team that keep the wheels spinning," he added.
Stubby's gets our second Blue Ribbon Award.
