MILWAUKEE - They keep getting bad health inspections, and we keep going back. Here's what the manager at this pizza spot on the near southside had to say this time.
Benny's Pizza is on 11th and Lincoln, and everything was clean back in 2007 so we gave them a Blue Ribbon Award. Then in 2012, they had three pages of violations and a visit from us. Now, they have more problems.
The manager first told us, "We just had a little extra bleach in the water that's all we did." But it was more than just that. The inspector found cross contamination problems, like raw chicken sitting next to bread dough, frozen chicken kept in plastic grocery bags, which can contain bacteria, and frozen food like chicken nuggets and unwrapped meat stored in cardboard boxes, not covered.
Dirty knives were kept next to clean ones and cooked food had no expiration date. It has to be thrown out after seven days. There was no soap at a hand wash sink and buckets of sauce and pickles were being kept on the floor.
"I don't know what to tell you, we fix everything right now. We do the best we can do," the manager said.
Also having problems this week Feng's Kitchen in Oconomowoc. They had some food temperature problems and an employee washed their hands without soap.
Keeping things clean The Fast Foodie. It's a food truck serving up "The Globaco." They take food from all over the world and put it in a flour tortilla. Look for them around town!
