MILWAUKEE - A manager in one Milwaukee restaurant says "a perfect storm" led to five pages of health violations.
El Greco is on 91st and Appleton, and they serve everything from homestyle dinners to Greek specials. But health inspectors found a lot of problems.
Among the list of complaints are cross-contamination risks. Employees were found handling dirty dishes and then clean ones, without washing their hands. El Greco has been cited for that before. A bucket of pancake batter was found sitting on the floor and food was stored uncovered in a freezer, which is another violation the restaurant has already received.
A manager agreed to talk to Dirty Dining off camera. He said it was "the perfect storm" the day of their inspection. He explained the cooler was on the fritz and his head chef had a family emergency.
Those problems with temperatures also applied to keeping food warm enough, like ground beef, meat balls, mashed potatoes and soup. El Greco has also had numerous food temperature issues on past inspections.
"We dealt with the violations that occurred at our establishment immediately because we care about our customers and the quality of the service we provide," the manager said in a statement.
Another restaurant with food temperature problems this week is Phan's Garden on 19th and National.
Keeping things clean this week is Stubby's Gastrogrub and Beer Bar on Humboldt in Riverwest.
