BAY VIEW - A new twist on Mexican fare and a little bit of Key West in Wisconsin. Both these spots received a green light from the health department.
Here are this week's Blue Ribbon Award winners:
Mr. Webo's is new to the Bay View neighborhood. On the corner of Lincoln and Howell, it's taking a different approach. From the art on the walls to it's "modern Mexican" menu.
"We do modern techniques and use modern recipes, and we just like to keep everything fresh and local," Chef Jeremy Hoch said.
Hoch has a strict approach to cleaning.
"My policy is clean up the mess before you make another," he said.
And he holds employees to that motto.
"Once an hour, I have everybody stop what they're doing and take five minutes and clean their station," he added.
For a clean health inspection report, Mr. Webo's gets our first Blue Ribbon Award.
The next stop is in downtown Waukesha on the Riverfront Plaza, and offers a little taste of Key West.
"People think they're on a little stay-cation when they come in here," owner Gary Krivos said.
He's been in the restaurant business for years, but this is his first venture out on his own. Gary and his wife Rita incorporated what they love about Key West into Key Westconsin, and almost everything on the menu can be made gluten free.
Gary said he's the bad cop when it comes to keeping things clean and calls his wife is "the good cop." And that approach is paying off. Key Westconsin has had nothing but clean health inspections since it opened two years ago.
