MILWAUKEE- El Tucanazo on 13th, north of Oklahoma: A small spot that's been serving up heaping platefuls of Mexican food for 10 years.  Now it's cleaning up a long list of violations. Things like a fruit fly infestation and a can of Raid kept in the same area where employees prep customer's food.

Plastic shopping bags being used to store food. An open container of rice milk sitting inside the customer soda cooler. And another open container sitting out at room temp.

Employees were using the same areas to prep both raw and ready to eat food. That's a cross contamination risk.

Improper cooling methods for food, and no expiration dates on prepared food which has a shelf life of 7 days.

Old freezer burnt meat, bread and chicken; it was ordered thrown out. In back of the restaurant overflowing grease barrel, attracting flies.

The inspector noted El Tucanazo's menu is too big for the size of restaurant. I talked to the owner by phone; he tells me the restaurant got really popular, and they just couldn't keep up.

The owner also said he's working with the health department to make some changes and fix the violations. El Tucanazo had 16 violations but was not fined.
