Wisconsin native reflects on September 11, museum opening

By Todd Hicks. CREATED May 15, 2014

SUSSEX - The new September 11 Museum at the site of the former World Trade Center brings back haunting memories for a retired New York City Police Officer originally from Wisconsin.

Diane Matuszak lives in Sussex.

The Waukesha County woman was working her beat in lower Manhattan when the planes hit the twin towers.

Knowing the victims are getting the memorial they deserve nearly 13 years later, finally gives her peace.

"I thinks anybody who goes to New York should try to get there and see that, honoring those people who lost their lives in the terrible attack," Matuszak said.

Matuszak will return to New York City to visit the memorial and museum sometime this summer.

It will officially open to the public May 21st, 2014.
