Wis. principal charged with not reporting abuse
CHILTON, Wis. (AP) -- A Wisconsin elementary principal faces a new set of charges for his handling of a 2011 child abuse report.
Richard J. Waters is principal of Janet Berry Elementary School in Appleton.
Post-Crescent Media reports that Waters was charged last week with misdemeanor counts of obstructing police and failure to report child abuse.
Police say Waters didn't report allegations against a special education teacher in a timely fashion and altered a letter before handing it over to officers.
Waters' attorney Len Kachinsky says the principal did not mean to hamper police efforts.
A judge dismissed an earlier charge of obstructing officers, saying charging documents didn't show Waters intended to deceive police.
