Wis. Democrats try to force vote honoring Sandy Hook
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Republicans in control of the state Assembly have refused to allow a vote on a resolution honoring victims of last year's mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Democratic Rep. Katrina Shankland, of Stevens Point, made a motion Thursday to allow for a vote on her resolution honoring the 26 victims of the shooting in Connecticut a year ago. But that was rejected on a 53-39 vote.
Shankland read the names of all the shooting victims during her argument for taking up the resolution. No Republican spoke either in opposition or support of the resolution.
The Senate passed the resolution in September with all 33 senators as co-sponsors.
