Waukesha boasts oldest four-year college in the state

WAUKESHA - Considered the state's 'pioneer college,' Carroll University is the oldest four-year institution of higher education in the state.
"We began in 1841 as Prairieville Academy," explained interim library director Amelia Klem Osterud. "Carroll was chartered in 1846."
As the archivist, Osterud is busy cataloging all the historic artifacts at the school.
She showed me old posters that include bickering between freshmen and upper class-men.
"The posters are mean," Osterud laughed. "They call the freshman 'feeble-minded, milk-fed infants' and say 'remember you're only a freshie.'"
