MILWAUKEE -- For hours, water gushed from the front doors of the Blessed Savior Catholic School south campus, 4059 N. 64th St., on Milwaukee's north side.
School officials canceled classes Thursday and Friday following an early morning water main break that left 2 to 3 inches of water throughout the entire first floor of the building.
Administrators rushed to the campus Thursday morning hoping to salvage what they could.
"We've had the insurance company here and will have a remedial company come in and help us clean up the mess," said Sister Sylvia Anne Sheldon, the school's financial director. "We'll be open for school as soon as possible."
Outside city crews worked to fix the water main break near the school and inside the work is underway to clean up the mess.
"The tiles and carpets have to be extracted and dried out," Sheldon said. "Anything on the floor has to be removed and all that takes organization."
