Victim of fatal apartment fire identified
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Authorities have released the name of a 51-year-old Madison man who died in a fire in his south side apartment.
The Dane County medical examiner's office on Thursday identified the victim as Christopher Williams.
An autopsy found Williams died from thermal injuries and smoke inhalation.
Firefighters found flames and heavy smoke in Williams' second floor apartment on Wednesday. A fire department spokeswoman tells the Wisconsin State Journal Williams was carried into a hallway but could not be resuscitated.
Williams' apartment was destroyed, and the units next to and beneath it sustained major damage.
The Madison Fire Department continues to investigate the cause of the fire.
