UW study finds link between lead paint, discipline problems
MADISON - A new study analyzed medical and discipline data from Milwaukee Public Schools, and determined children exposed to lead are nearly three times more likely to be suspened from school by the fourth grade.
The researchers say lead, found in paint in older homes and rental properties, may have a bigger influence on discipline than previously thought. The researchers also say they've built on past research that shows racial disparities in school discipline, but few specify any underlying factors.
