MILWAUKEE - Two people are dead after a shooting on Milwaukee's north side Monday night.
Police said they responded to a report of shots fired just after 8 p.m. near N. 42nd St. and W. Villard Ave. It was there they found the bodies of two men inside an apartment building, behind a Cousins Subs restaurant.
"It's still fresh," said neighbor Ron Scott. "I really don't believe that it happened."
There's no word yet on what caused the shooting, though police said the "early indication is that the incident was not a random act."
"It was scary. It was like right behind my house...," Scott said. "We're not even in the summer yet and it makes you scared."
Scott said he knew one of the victims, but police have not confirmed their identities yet.
While officers look for clues, other neighbors search for answers.
"Nothing ever happened like this here before. It's rough," said neighbor Leon Shorter. "I was concerned about the safety of my grandkids."
