'The war has to stop': Local reaction to the crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17

MILWAUKEE- Nikoli Rogovski is familiar with the tensions against Russia in his home country of Ukraine.

"The war has to stop, too many people die."

So when he learned a commercial airliner was shot down by a surface-to-air missile, his heart sank.

"It does not matter what nationality they are, it's just horrible that so many people died, they were just flying somewhere. To their family and their friends. And all of a sudden a boom," says Rogovski.

No one on Malaysian Airlines Flight 17 survived. Concordia University professor Van Mobley questions the airline's flight route.

"Common prudence would dictate that you would not fly a plane with 300 people over an area where we know fighting is going and combatants have surface-to-air missiles."

However the big question still remains, who shot down this plane? Professor Mobley says there are three groups who could be responsible.

"And those 3 sides are the western Ukrainians in Kiev, pro-separatists in the Donsket basin, and then Russians-Moscow."

Both Ukraine and Russia have denied involvement. Ukraine is pointing the finger at pro-Russian separatists, though they too have denied shooting down the plane.
